Bio: Dr Helen Rouse is Regional Manager of the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research Ltd’s (NIWA’s) Christchurch office. Helen has a PhD in coastal geomorphology from the University of Hull, UK, and has been in New Zealand since 1996. Helen has over 20 years’ experience in regional government and central government, research, and tertiary teaching in New Zealand and the UK, including stints at Lincoln University and the West Coast Regional Council. She has been at NIWA since 2007, working mainly as a resource management specialist leading projects including an MBIE funded programme looking at coastal adaptation to climate change.
Helen’s passion is working at the interface between science and policy, helping communicate environmental science - whether it be coastal, freshwater or marine - to inform resource and hazard management decision-making for the benefit of New Zealand’s environment and communities.
